Rob's Story

It all started with a hyperactive kid that wanted to make money in the late 70's in Dallas Texas. My original motto was "Professional Service, Kid Next Door Prices" and I mowed a dozen yards in my neighborhood with an original Weedeater line trimmer with a line as thick as dental floss. As I got into high school I was fanatical about snow skiing and would mow lawns all summer to pay for my ski trips which I would embark on myself to either Colorado or New Mexico. I was a finance major at University of North Texas training to follow in my dad's footsteps on Wall Street. I took Tuesday/Thursday classes to open up weekends for me to go skiing. A bulb went off in my head that if I got enough help, I could work outside and make a decent enough living and go skiing all winter and spend more time in the mountains. To the chagrin of my parents I quit college in my third year and dove into the lawn business. I also had no fear of heights and started hanging Christmas lights as a side business in 1990 but that's another story. Around that time I got to visit Seattle and I realized that I could live right next to the mountains and be able to make a living and not have to travel and actually live next to the mountains. As a bonus I wouldn't have to work in the sweltering heat. It took a decade and a lot of convincing of my wife Julie to finally move to Seattle and start a new business in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. So I traded the heat for the cool rain and found some great young managers that take pride in their work and 20 years and thousands of yards serviced later I still like to come out and mow lawns a few days a week for the love of being outside and getting exercise. I don't ski quite as much as when I was younger and ironically my wife and I vacation in the sun in the winter and I ski tour in the spring and summer now.
